Williamsburg junior has been on long journey to recovery

WILLIAMSBURG — It’s been four years since Williamsburg High School junior Hope Arno had two good legs to stand on. Meanwhile, she has relied on her family, teammates, medical personnel and, above all, faith to persevere.

She tore her left anterior cruciate ligament playing softball in the summer of 2021 and underwent surgery in August of that year, where doctors used a piece of her hamstring to fashion a new ACL. She underwent nine months of therapy.

She tore the medial meniscus in her left knee while playing softball in March 2024, which yielded surgery and six more months of therapy.

In November, she tore the ACL, medial meniscus and lateral meniscus and damaged cartilage in her right knee playing basketball. Surgeons crafted a new ACL from part of the patella tendon. Rehab continues.
