When a Disabled American Veteran Auxiliary (DAVA) Unit #63 supporter contacted Unit #63 Commander Shirley Plahovinsak with an offer, the Unit Commander sprang into action.

The DAVA Supporter had received a large shipment of Tranquility Premium OverNight Underwear and her relative no longer needed the protective garments. The DAVA Supporter wanted to give the garments to needy veterans or people who could use them.

The Unit Commander agreed to accept the offering and received the shipment of sixteen (16) sealed packages, with fourteen (14) garments in each package. “If we had to purchase one (1) package, the cost would be $22.00,” elaborated the Unit Commander, “so the total worth of the donated sixteen (16) packages was equivalent to $352.00.”

“We first contacted the Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown to determine if they could use the shipment of OverNight underwear,” said Plahovinsak, “but they already had an ample, sufficient supply.”

“Our Unit #63 had previously worked with the DAV Thrift Store in Louisville,” stated the Commander, “and two (2) years ago we delivered eighteen (18) large bundles of clothes to the store for free distribution to the people that were significantly impacted by the floods in Kentucky.”

“As I recall, the Clermont Sun Newspaper did a story of our Unit’s efforts to assist the flood victims with our delivery in Kentucky two (2) years ago,”

she commented.

“Because time is crucial to people in need of disaster assistance, the Unit Commander drove the OverNight garments to Matthew 25: Ministries (in Blue Ash) and gave them to Benjamin Schultz, a sorter at the loading dock.

“We certainly can use these items in disaster relief,” Schultz said.

National DAVA Commander Christopher Easley once told me, “If we all just do one little thing every day to help our veterans and our communities, together we will make a significant impact for our disabled veterans and our communities,” concluded Plahovinsak. “And I believe in that statement.”
