Savor Seasonings, LLC celebrated opening their new location with a ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration on Feb. 19.
The business, which has been open for 13 years, outgrew it’s former location, also in Batavia. Savor Seasonings is now located at 4292 Armstrong Blvd. The event included a ceremony, facility tours, taste testing and cocktails and hors d’ouevres.
Savor Seasonings manufactures seasonings, mostly for snack foods, that food manufacturing companies use.
The groundbreaking on the new building was July 1, 2015. Staff started moving in on Dec. 27 and finished Jan. 4. Everything is going well so far, said President and CEO Jeff Higgins.
The new building is 20,000 square feet, twice as big as the former building.
“It’s fabulous,” Jeff Higgins said.
The new location includes new features, such as an industrial dishwasher and a “driver cage” so that the delivery drivers don’t contaminate anything, said Samantha Caudill, daughter of Jeff and Shelley Higgins and an employee of Savor.
The ceremony began with a welcome from Jeff Higgins and an invocation by Father Chris Coleman, who prayed for blessings on all the Savor staff.
Shelley Higgins, vice president, spoke of her appreciation to her parents, children, the Savor staff and everyone else who has helped. She also thanked her husband.
“Jeff, thank you for your commitment to me and our family for over 30 years. You’ve been hardworking and a wonderful provider. You have the gift of vision, risk, courage and strength that has helped us get to today,” Shelley Higgins said.
This is the end of the building process and the beginning of the next chapter for the company, Shelley Higgins said.
“We are poised to flourish,” Shelley Higgins said.
Caudill spoke next to congratulate her parents on their hard work.
Savor’s motto has always been to serve people, which isn’t just the company motto but something that Shelley and Jeff Higgins do in their daily life. They have sacrificed a lot to get to where they are today, Caudill said.
“They have lived up to their mission,” Caudill said.
Caudill and her sisters, Lauren Yinger and Heather Higgins, gave their parents a picture with a Bible verse on it to remind them of their mission.
“We love you, we couldn’t be happier for you both, and you both deserve this,” Caudill said.
Dave Axline, Shelley Higgin’s father, added that he’s very proud of the two of them.
Jeff Higgins was the one who wanted to open Savor. He’s the risk taker, not his wife, and he’s been involved with seasonings for a long time. Jeff Higgins enjoys seasonings because it uses both sides of the brain: the creative and the scientific sides.
“We’ve been very blessed,” Jeff Higgins said.
Part of the company’s success is due to the way they run their business, if the praises Steve Surmay, senior vice president of Co-Pack Operations with Shearer’s Snacks, gave are any indication.
“The one thing you can always count on about Savor Seasonings is about service. It’s on time and if you have any concerns at all he addresses it,” Surmay said.
He added that the company is dependable and charges a fair price.
