Pierce Township residents approved a 2.9 mill police levy in a special election May 8.
“We are grateful and very relieved,” said Pierce Township Police Chief Jim Smith on May 9. “It has been a long several months leading up to this, and today we are taking a well -deserved deep breath.”
The unofficial results, with all 12 precincts counted, show that the police levy passed with a margin of 872 voting for and 718 voting against the tax levy.
Smith said that the levy will accomplish two very important things.
