OXFORD — For as long as the Division III, Region 9 semifinal game between Greenville and New Richmond lasted, it ended in the blink of an eye.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and nobody on base, Greenville’s Kylar Arnett belted a single to center and one pitch later, senior Zoey Burns roped the ball to the center-field wall, scoring the speedy Arnett from first base for a 1-0 victory, ending the Lady Lions’ 2025 campaign in one of the best-played softball games of the season May 28 at Miami Softball Stadium.

“That is probably the best I have seen my girls — I mean, they play well — but Izzie (Carroll) pitched one heck of a game, both sides did, and the defenses with no errors. You can’t beat that. That’s a great game to watch,” New Richmond coach Trish Payne said. “You can see the discipline on both sides. It was a great game.”

Both teams had opportunities to tally a run on the scoreboard, but Carroll and Greenville starter Ella Oswalt were stellar with the help of their lockdown defenses. Carroll, the Mount St. Joseph University commit, allowed the game’s single run on three hits and struck out seven in 8 2/3 innings. The Lady Lion senior had a perfect game going through five innings and faced one over the minimum through eight frames against a Lady Wave team that came in averaging 8.5 runs per game.
