Our community is ready to be the location of an important cultural festival on Mother’s Day weekend. Held each May for decades at Coney Island along the Ohio River, the Appalachian Festival has a new ‘forever home’ here in New Richmond on the Ohio.

The annual event is a beloved tradition that celebrates the rich heritage, music, crafts, and culture of the Appalachian region. Drawing families, artists, and history enthusiasts alike, the festival offers a unique window into the traditions of the Appalachian people.

Visitors can enjoy live bluegrass, folk, and mountain music performed on multiple stages, as well as traditional storytelling and dance demonstrations. Artisans and craftspeople showcase handmade goods such as pottery, quilts, woodwork, and blacksmithing, while food vendors offer classic regional fare like cornbread, fried green tomatoes, and homemade jams.

Educational exhibits and historical reenactments bring Appalachian history to life, and children’s activities—including folk games and nature programs—ensure fun for all ages. The festival also features workshops, demonstrations, and panel discussions on Appalachian life, sustainability, and cultural preservation.

Celebrating more than 50 years of heritage, the Appalachian Festival remains a vibrant gathering that honors a distinct American culture and fosters community spirit through music, craftsmanship, and storytelling. We are honored to have this wonderful event here on our historic and picturesque riverfront Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, May 11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, please visit www.appalachianfestival.com.
