Batavia Township officials are sharing their opinions about a new housing development being proposed.
The Batavia Twp. Trustees Rex Parsons, Randy Perry and James Sauls, and Batavia Township Fiscal Officer Jennifer Haley penned a letter to residents of the township and the village of Batavia; the letter was posted on the township’s website on Facebook page on Sept. 6.
The proposed development is located on the recently annexed property located between Clough Pike, Taylor Road, and East Bauman Lane.
The project is scheduled to be discussed at the village of Batavia Planning and Zoning Commission meeting on Sept. 17 at 7:00 p.m. at the village administration building, 65 N. 2nd St.
The letter states that the proposed housing development is located within a Community Reinvestment Area; CRAs offer tax abatements or reductions for projects within a designated area.
The letter notes that the proposed housing development is the third development within the village of Batavia to utilize the tax incentive program, and it is estimated that approximately 1,400 households will be part of these CRA communities.
“While the CRA encourages new homeownership and growth, it also impacts funding for critical community services. Residents in these developments are required to make Payments In Lieu Of Taxes,” reads the letter.
