The City of Loveland Veterans Committee is pleased to announce details for its 2024 Memorial Day parade and ceremony.

The event will be held Monday, May 27, starting with a parade at 9 a.m. from Loveland Elementary School, 600 Loveland Madeira Road, to the Loveland Veterans’ Memorial. If you or your organization would like to be in the parade, registration is open. Immediately following the parade, a ceremony will be held at the Loveland Veterans’ Memorial, located at the intersection of West Loveland Avenue and Riverside Drive. The ceremony will feature a speech from Colonel J. Scott Calder.

Colonel Calder graduated from Loveland High School and had a long career with the US Air Force Medical Service. He earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1992 and then completed a residency in general surgery at Wright State University. After moving up the ranks from Staff General Surgeon, he received his promotion to Colonel in May 2010 and continued his professional military education.

Serving both at home and abroad, he accepted his first overseas assignment to Japan in 1997. Later, he was assigned to Germany where he was the Surgical Services Flight Commander. He served in Oman in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and later in Afghanistan and Italy. Stateside assignments included California, Florida, and Texas.

During his years of service, Colonel Calder received numerous decorations and awards: Meritorious Service with five oak leaf clusters, the Air Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the NATO Medal, as well as 13 additional decorations and eight Awards for leadership and service excellence.
