My name is Alan Darnowsky and I’m running as a Democrat to be your State Representative for the 65th Assembly District.

Alan Darnowsky, Candidate for Ohio’s 65th House District.

I’m running in order to give back to the country that has given so many opportunities to me and my family. My grandfather was an immigrant who didn’t speak fluent English, but he was able to find a job and support his family. My dad, because of the educational opportunities available to him, was able to build a solid middle-class life and contribute to society. One of my fondest memories of my dad was watching with him when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the moon from the Lunar Module that my dad had worked on. As American society became more open to people from different religious and ethnic backgrounds, I was able to earn admission to Yale even though I didn’t have the typical Ivy League background.

Now I find that the optimistic nature of this country is fading. I’m concerned that opportunity will not be available for all. I believe strongly in community, that working together we can buoy each other up, and build a stronger society. There are too many people who have forgotten all the help they got along the way and are just out for themselves. I want to do my small part to keep Ohio as a place where everybody, not just a small minority, can strive to realize their dreams.

After graduating from Yale, I became an IT professional. I owned my own software firm for about half of my career. Running my own business taught me the art of listening to what the customer really wanted; how to plan and how to improvise when external events sidetracked those plans; and most importantly that you had to deliver for the customer or they were not going to stay your customer. These are skills that are transferable to the job of a State Representative.

I want to represent all of the people in the 65th District, not just the big donors and the loudest voices. I would love to open up a dialogue with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents to try to come up with solutions to our problems and make Clermont County an even better place to live, work, and play.
