The village of Bethel has held the first meeting in what is hoped to be a continuing process to create a skate park.

Councilman Tim Cherry said that the first meeting to get input on a proposed skate park was well-attended by the public, and helped generate a basic plan to flesh out for the park’s creation.

“We had our first meeting, and it was well-attended,” said Cherry. “There were probably 16-20 people there. There was a lot of interest, and this was basically asking them what they would like to see there. We don’t want to put something together that won’t get use. We wanted to get their input. We’re setting on the direction of a modular type park, similar to some of the components that New Richmond has. That’s what we’re looking at now.”

A second meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 8 in the community center. The park will benefit from a grant received by the village, which has to be used this year to avoid revocation. The council has received some criticism from residents who feel that the park is unnecessary or frivolous, a position which councilwoman Donna Gunn said is unfair.
