Throughout the late Winter and Spring of 2025, Goshen High School’s Computer Science and Information Technology teacher, Garrett Walt, has been attending the Work Based Learning cohort held by the PAST Foundation, a non-profit organization based out of Columbus with a mission to empower students and educators by providing STEM education and connecting learning to life. The intention behind this program was to create and offer work-based learning opportunities for Goshen students in the area of I.T.
Mr. Walt was able to use the professional development time and resources offered by this program to build the framework for an in-school, student-staffed I.T. helpdesk to debut in the 2025-2026 school year. This new opportunity will allow Goshen students to improve their skills, experience, and hireability by working hands-on to track Chromebook inventory, repair damaged devices, and support students and teachers. Students will also have the opportunity and support to work independently on attaining industry credentials and designing and implementing passion projects which further their college and career readiness.
A small-scale pilot version of this program was completed in the spring, with Goshen juniors Oliver Bailey, Sarah Healey, Wyatt Vance, and Adelyn Weigle agreeing to test out a number of features of this program and offer feedback on how best to implement a student help desk for the following school year. We’re thankful for their feedback, and excited to see what’s next for this great opportunity coming in 2025-2026.
