Clermont County is on the move—and to keep our momentum going, strategic investment in transportation and infrastructure is essential. As the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce, we believe strongly in creating the conditions where businesses thrive, workers succeed, and communities grow stronger. Infrastructure is the foundation of economic prosperity, and today, we have a unique opportunity to secure long-term growth for our region.

House Bill 54, Ohio’s transportation budget for fiscal years 2026-2027, represents a significant step forward. With over $11 billion in total funding, this budget increases support for Transportation Improvement Districts (TIDs), boosts investment in public transit, and provides critical workforce mobility resources. Clermont County is well positioned to benefit. Our local TID can now access increased annual funding of $9 million statewide, enabling vital infrastructure upgrades that connect our residential neighborhoods to job hubs and support ongoing development. In addition, the Ohio Workforce Mobility Partnership—funded at $15 million annually—can enhance access to employment opportunities for workers across the county.

These targeted investments align perfectly with the Chamber’s 2025 Legislative Agenda, which prioritizes expanding public transportation and infrastructure access to help businesses attract and retain talent. Our agenda also champions rural broadband and utilities investment—core infrastructure that underpins a thriving economy. By strengthening our roads, transit, and digital connectivity, we unlock potential for businesses of all sizes to succeed.

We also urge state leaders to look ahead and embrace a bold vision for Ohio’s future: the expansion of passenger rail. A recent study by All Aboard Ohio estimates that early stages of rail expansion could generate around $100 million in economic impact. This isn’t just a transportation project—it’s an economic growth strategy. Amtrak ridership rose 15 percent in 2024, with a 9 percent increase in ticket revenue, signaling clear demand. Linking Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland with reliable rail will boost tourism, improve access to jobs, and enhance Ohio’s attractiveness for business investment.

Our Chamber believes passenger rail and local infrastructure investments must go hand in hand. We cannot afford to fall behind. Ohio’s transportation future will be built through strong public-private partnerships, with Clermont County leading the way.

We would also like to thank Representative Jean Schmidt, Representative Adam Bird, and Senator Terry Johnson for their ongoing leadership and support of transportation and infrastructure investments in our region. Their commitment to advocating for Clermont County ensures our local needs are represented in Columbus, and their efforts play a critical role in securing the resources necessary to keep our communities connected and competitive.

Together, we can ensure that our region remains competitive, connected, and full of opportunity.
