Jewel ‘Ray’ Davenport, 87, of Batavia, Ohio went to his heavenly home on July 17, 2023. He was born February 23, 1936, in Harlan County, Kentucky to the late Claude and Lora Davenport. Ray married Nancy Jo Bell on November 2, 1957. Ray was a deacon at Monterey Baptist Church in Owensville and formerly at Glen Este First Baptist Church in Glen Este. He served in the US Airforce for 4 years. He retired after 30 years as a surveyor for Santoro Engineering. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, taking trips to his ‘home place’ of Corbin, Kentucky, visiting Nancy’s family in Texas and taking his daily walks in Sycamore Park. His many loves include: singing gospel music in church and at a local Monday Night Singing, enjoying his grandchildren and U.K. basketball. In his younger years, he could be found throwing a softball, shooting hoops or catching crawdads with his girls. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Etta Chambers, brother Jerry Davenport and grandson Jared Bach. Ray is survived by his wife of 65 years Nancy Bell Davenport, daughters Gina Davenport Bach, Patricia Davenport (Bob) Hussey, brother James ‘Toby’ (Leanne) Davenport, grandchildren Ashley (Mike) Hoge, Dustin Bach, Michael(Kelly) Cameron, two great-granddaughters Mazie and Serenity Cameron along with cherished cousins, nieces and nephews. Family received friends Saturday 7/22/23 from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. all at the Monterey Baptist Church 5345 Hutchinson Rd. Batavia, OH 45103, 513-625-6218.
