Howdy folks—Fall is here and the soybean harvest seems to be in full swing. When I am up in Bethel there are a lot of big trucks hauling beans. Some of the soybeans are yielding as much as 60 to 70 bushel per acre. The farmers have a lot of money in the crops so they hope the extra expense will pay off.

George Rooks, The Ole Fisherman.

Dan took me down to Poochie’s last week and while there I saw a plaque on the wall. It read, “Good days start with coffee and Jesus.“ How true! Poochie has a lot of signs on the restaurant walls. When we got there the place was full. After a little while a table got vacant. That is a good restaurant. The service is great and the food is good. I had the Bicks meet me at Frisch’s for lunch today. They were glad to be there with me. I try to get all the preachers down there for lunch and other folks. We have good fellowship while eating our meal. Bill and Janet are such wonderful people and are good church folks. Bill has belonged to the Bethel Lions club for a number of years. Janet is always glad to help anyone in the church if she can. They taught school for many years before retiring. I try to have someone to share a meal with each day which makes it better than eating alone.

I was talking to Bill Sweeney and he said Danny Grant has just about sold all his mums. He has a few left. The Feedmill here in Bethel sold all their mums.

When I get soup at Frisch’s, the young ladies bring me oyster crackers and regular crackers so what I have left over I bring home and feed the critters during the night. I had some onion rings I didn’t eat so I put them out before I went to bed. The next morning there were no onion rings or crackers laying on the ground where I threw them so I imagine the skunks and raccoons ate them.

I understand the Bethel Football team is doing good and I am glad to hear this. I met Darry Nipper for lunch today, Sunday, October 24. He told me he had lost the keys to his car. Now he has a car that you need these keys to start it or to do almost anything. He showed me the keys he had made. He asked me how much do you think they cost him? Well, I have had many keys made and they cost me a dollar or three. They cost him I think $145, but without these keys the car doesn’t run or anything.

I talked to Cedar Lake and the lady said fishing is real good there. They have had several 50 pounders, 40 pounders and lots of channel catfish caught. This week the fishing is good with lots of people fishing. I talked to Danny Grant and he said they are getting some heavy rain so Jason could not cut the last 200 acres yet, but he may shell corn tomorrow.

Start your week by praying and praising the good Lord.

God bless all …
