The Goshen High School volleyball team has had quite a run this month.
Heading into September 1, Goshen sat 1-2 overall with a win over Western Brown and losses to Colerain and Indian Hill.
Since the calendar flipped on September 1, the Lady Warriors have ran off six wins in seven matches as of this writing. The team is one of three squads tied at 3-1 in the SBAAC American Division, with the last of those wins coming in straight sets against Wilmington on Wednesday, September 16.
Goshen took the first set against the Hurricane 25-22. After an early seven-point deficit in the second, the Lady Warriors rallied to win the set 28-26. They ended the match with a 25-16 win.
“I thought they played well,” head coach Amy Bryant said. “We had something like 80 total attempts for kills and less than 10 errors. They did good, they battled hard.”
Tristyn Smiley led the Lady Warriors with 10 kills. Taylor Smith recorded 30 digs for Goshen, while Delaney Geary had 22. Geary also led the team with 25 assists and two aces.
That contest marked the fourth the team has played without Madison Hornsby. Hornsby injured her knee in the team’s match against Blanchester, requiring surgery that will sideline her for the remainder of the season.
“It’s been a struggle, we’ve only practiced once without Madison,” Bryant said. “The players that are filling in her spot have worked really hard and are doing a great job.”
Goshen’s winning ways continued three days after the Wilmington match with a four-set win over the Cincinnati Trailblazers.
The Lady Warriors took the first set 25-19, 25-15, 19-25, 25-19. Smiley tallied 14 kills, with Smith recording 38 digs. Isabelle Blair had four aces for the Lady Warriors, who improved to 7-3 overall with the win.
Goshen has a pair of contests scheduled for next week. The Lady Warriors host Western Brown on Tuesday, September 29 before traveling to East Clinton on Wednesday, September 30.
