On May 27, Shirley Williamson went to the job she has held for 40 years for the last time.
Williamson was a deputy clerk and title department supervisor for Clermont County, a job she loved mostly because of the people she met, both her coworkers and the public.
“It’s very satisfying when you can help people,” Williamson said.
She enjoyed her time behind the counter. Williamson has been supervising for the past 15 years, but otherwise has held the same position she took 40 years ago. Williamson feels she has made some great friends and met wonderful people. She will miss interactions with the staff and public the most. Williamson is a widow and only has one son, so her coworkers have become her family.
The biggest change Williamson has seen in her career was the move to computers, something that really sped her work up.
Barbara Wiedenbein, the common please clerk of courts, will miss Williamson’s friendship and knowledge the most. She has worked with Williamson since Wiedenbein took office in 2005.
Williamson believes there are two sides to every story, Wiedenbein said. People come into the office and want the staff to do something that the staff can’t because of state laws, but Williamson always tried to find ways to help.
“She always works it out,” Wiedenbein said.
While titles are simple, it can be easy to make an error. Williamson was excellent at making is easy for people to fill out the paperwork, Wiedenbein said.
“She’s just good at what she does,” Wiedenbein said.
Williamson is not sure what she’ll do with her time now that she’s retired. First, she said, she’ll have to get used to not having a job. She thinks she would like to volunteer.
“I’m looking forward to it. I’m going to miss work but I’m going to start a new adventure now,” Williamson said.
She enjoyed the party that the office held for her.
