Billy Hickey signs his college letter-of-intent witnessed by his mom Ena Hickey and football coaches Scott Lefker, standing, left, and ‘Burg head football coach Trevor Foster.
Billy Hickey, Williamsburg High School senior, has signed a letter-of-intent to continue his education and athletic career at the University of the Cumberlands, Williamsburg, Ky.

At this time he is undecided about what field of study in that he plans to major, but he is decided that he will play football for the Patriots.

“The coaches at that school sounded more interested in me than other coaches did and they were nicer to me,” said the son of Dan and Ena Hickey about his choice of college.

As a ‘Burg Wildcat, Hickey lettered every year of his high school days in both football and track and field and he was a Southern Buckeye Conference National Division all-star in both.

Off the tracks and fields of competition, he studied hard to earn membership in the National Honor Society and he was a member of the WHS prom committee.

Two athletic events stand out as being of particular importance to him and the most notable of his prep career.

“We beat Blanchester my senior year (football) in the last 30 seconds of the game,” he remembered, adding, “I’m really proud to have been a regional qualifier in field events in track for the last three years.”

Many people have been of particular importance in his life.

“My parents got me to all my practices and games and supported me all of the time,” he said.

“My grandpa has been to all of my football games and track meets and has always encouraged me. . . my coaches Scott and Tom Lefker, Chad Ward, and Chris Rolph pushed me and supported me and encouraged me. . . my brother DJ was always supporting me, too.”
