Two Georgetown residents were flown to University Hospital Monday afternoon as a result of a crash on state Route 133.

According to the Batavia Post of the State Highway Patrol’s preliminary investigation Connie Newland, 57, was southbound on state Route 133 in Tate Township south of Macedonia Road at about 2:50 p.m. March 28 when her vehicle traveled off the right side of the road and struck the end of a guardrail. The guardrail traveled through the windshield and out the rear window before the 1998 Ford Windstar mini-van came to a stop.

Newland was transported by AirCare to University Hospital where, according to the State Highway Patrol, she was listed in very critical condition as of Tuesday.

Ralph Newland, 82, was the front seat passenger. He was also transported by AirCare to University Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

The State Highway Patrol has said it did not appear that either of the injured were wearing seat belts and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
