Batavia is off to its best start to a season since opening the 2018 campaign with a 4-0 mark. The Bulldogs will play their first home game of 2025 against Kenton Ridge on Sept. 5 in non-conference play.
The Cougars (1-1), from the Central Buckeye Conference, come to town fresh off a dominating 34-0 victory over Northridge, a game in which the Cougars scored all their points in the first half. Kenton Ridge is second in the CBC in yards per game, 731, and points per game, 61.
Quarterback Julian Daniels can sling it. The senior is 34-of-54 passing for 412 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. Brody Runkle is the Cougars’ main offensive threat as a rusher and receiver. As a rusher, he has carried the ball 23 times for 165 yards and two scores and caught seven passes for 93 yards and one touchdown.
Caleb Hall (eight catches, 94 yards, two TDs) and Brennan Shaffer (seven catches, 88 yards, one TD) are also targets for Daniels.
Batavia quarterback Carson Harris might want to be on the look out for defensive back Bryndyn Parsons (two interceptions), however, the Coguars don’t seem to have much of a pass rush early in the season.
Batavia is projected to win by 11, according to Drew Pasteur’s Ohio Fantastic 50.
WILLIAMSBURG (2-0) AT MARIEMONT (2-0)
This is the fourth time since 2019 that a Warriors team has started the season 2-0 — each time during an odd-numbered season — and the last Mariemont team to start 3-0 was in 2019.
Quarterback Zachary Maier is fifth in the Cincinnati Hills League in passing yards with 204. The Warriors average 510 yards per game and 41 points through the first two games. Williamsburg has shown an ability to stymie offenses; let’s see if the Wildcats can do it again this week. Drew Pasteur thinks they can as a 24-point favorite.
