WILLIAMSBURG — Chris Frey is passionate about improving his hometown disc golf course. The dedicated disc golfer has committed to revitalizing the much-neglected 26-hole disc golf course at Williamsburg Community Park.
“We are more than just ’Burg. This is my home course and I love it,” Frey said. “Unless you go to Idlewild across the river in Kentucky, you don’t find a course this nice, and we are concentrating here because it’s been forgotten about.
“We are trying to get the word out there and bring the reputation back to ’Burg.”
Maintaining the course has been a work in progress, and Frey is looking to self-fund the upgrades. This includes when he hosted a DIY Day on Aug. 2 and 3. The course needs new concrete pads poured and new baskets, both of which are about 20 to 30 years old, Frey said. Several baskets have been beaten up over the years.
“It was like $300. I paid for it myself, but we are just trying to generate interest back into here,” Frey said.
