Wrestling has been in Kiara Martin’s blood since she was 5, and she plans to continue the sport well after high school.
The 2025 Batavia High School graduate was on the national stage earlier in the summer when Martin competed June 19 and 20 at the 2025 Women’s National Duals meet at the Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, Indiana. It was the first and only national dual meet that Martin competed in as she gears toward a possible path to college.
“I was a little nervous at first, but then I realized it wasn’t that bad,” Martin said. “I had seen a post on social media where they were looking for girls to fill the team in certain weight classes, so I had responded by showing interest. I didn’t hear anything right away, and then late April, early May, (women’s wrestling co-director) coach Rob Dearwester had reached out to me asking if I was still interested and of course I said yes.”
Martin wrestled in the junior division at the 235-pound weight class. Criteria to wrestle in the national meet included being enrolled in the ninth to the 12th grade during the 2025 spring semester. Martin wrestled for Team Ohio, going 6-3 overall, including two pins, as Team Ohio won its pool competition. Martin’s victories included those against girls from Hawaii, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Arkansas and New Jersey.
