Williamsburg was hopping June 19 – 21, celebrating “June in olde Williamsburg.”

This tradition began in 1996, in honor of the bicentennial celebration of Williamsburg, and the legacy, which fosters community spirit and brings neighbors together, continues.

The June fest kicked off Friday evening with the parade. Heading up the parade was Grand Marshall George Seip. The committee started planning in February for this June fest, and Seip said he could not have asked for a better committee group. According to Liz Betemps, committee coordinator, Seip was appointed Grand Marshall because of his 50 years of service to the community. He was a head figure in the community for many years.

Given that 2026 is the nation’s 250th anniversary, the committee will start working on the 2026 June fest this July, and they are going to aim for having it on Main Street, instead of the present location at the old Williamsburg High School grounds.

Seip said they have local donors who contribute to funding the weekend, and if they have any money left over, they fund scholarships for Williamsburg High School students

Seip served 26 years of EMS/fire/ life squad service for Batavia and Williamsburg. In 1978, he became a Williamsburg police officer, serving for 22 years. His main concern has been about ensuring the safety of Williamsburg residents. He received two accommodations for acts of bravery; one from the village of Williamsburg and the other from Governor DeWine in 2022. He was also commended by the prosecutor’s office for his investigative assistance. As Seip continues to volunteer, the public safety of his village is always foremost on his mind.
