What in your background qualifies you to serve in this position? Why are you running for this position?
This state is my home — I was born and raised in Mansfield, where I earned my Eagle Scout award and spent summers working on our family’s farm. I saw what bad trade deals — written by corporate lobbyists and pushed by politicians of both parties — did to my community.
That’s why I’ve spent my career fighting for the Dignity of Work – the idea that hard work should pay off for everyone, no matter who you are, where you live, or what kind of work you do. I’ll always do what’s right for Ohio – whether that means standing up to drug companies to lower the cost of prescriptions for people on Medicare, standing up to special interests and corporations to lower costs and cut taxes for middle class families, or taking on presidents of both parties to fight bad trade deals that hurt workers.
What is your platform? What are the most pressing issues facing Clermont County that come before someone who is elected to the position you seek? If elected, what would you seek to enhance and improve Clermont County?
For too many Ohioans, hard work isn’t paying off like it should. Every time people go to the grocery store they’re paying for stock buybacks and CEO bonuses. Corporations have too much power in the economy, and they use it to squeeze the workers who make their companies successful, while funneling all the profits to the top – whether through corporate outsourcing or corporate price gouging. We need to keep working to lower prices for Ohioans, cut taxes for Ohio families with a permanent expanded Child Tax Credit, lower the cost of housing, and make it easier for workers to join a union.
I am also fighting to keep the best manufacturing talent in the country in Ohio by investing in apprenticeship programs and hosting summer manufacturing camps in Southwest Ohio and across the state. My office will continue to help young Ohioans learn about American manufacturing and prepare them for good-paying jobs that will help build Ohio’s future.
We need to make more in America – and there’s no better place to do that than Ohio. I’m working to grow new industries in the Greater Cincinnati area and create good-paying, middle class jobs. I led the effort alongside former Senator Rob Portman to pass the strongest Buy American provisions ever, which will ensure infrastructure projects like the Brent Spence Bridge are built using American-made materials. That’s also why we wrote the CHIPS Act and worked to bring Intel to central Ohio, which is cementing Ohio’s leadership in this industry that will create jobs around the state.
I’m also working with Republicans and Democrats to secure the southern border, crack down on fentanyl trafficking, and ensure that border patrol agents have the resources they need. I worked across the aisle to pass into law the FEND Off Fentanyl Act to do more to keep dangerous fentanyl out of Ohio by going after the chemical suppliers in China and the drug cartels in Mexico.
And I’ll always fight for our servicemen and women, and for all the veterans and military families who have sacrificed to protect our country – including by making sure those exposed to toxic burn pits can access the healthcare benefits they’ve earned through the PACT Act, which we named after an Ohioan.
Governing comes down to whose side you’re on, and I’ll always stand with Ohioans in Clermont County, because when you love this country, you fight for the people who make it work.
