Like most shelters, the Clermont County Animal Shelter is now full. Clermont County remains committed to staying a no-kill facility, so it’s very important for the community to step forward to adopt and/or foster.
If you’ve ever considered adopting or fostering a dog, now is a great time! The shelter now has more than 100 dogs (30 in foster care). Capacity is 60, 80 with overcrowding.

The adoption fee is $120 ($85 for seniors). This covers spaying or neutering. (Note: Puppies adopt quickly, even with the higher fee of $170.)
Clermont County began operating the shelter directly in January 2021, after contracting out the service for a number of years. Since then, only four dogs have been euthanized – all after examination by veterinarians – due to extreme aggressive behavior and one due to age. The county has greatly improved the facility, upgrading indoor and outdoor kennels, painting, cleaning and taking steps to end and prevent rodent infestations. The shelter has established partnerships with area foster and rescue groups who support its efforts.
The shelter welcomed Tim Pappas as the new dog warden on Sept. 16. He oversees a dedicated staff that deeply cares about the animals. Pappas is a retired canine SWAT officer and farmer with great experience with animals.
Visit the shelter at 4025 Filager Road, Batavia, OH 45103, noon-4 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, or by appointment at (513) 732-8854.
