The New Richmond Exempted Village School District has been selected for a School Bus Purchase Program Award of $180,000 to be used for the purchase of four new buses.

The Ohio Department of Education selected New Richmond Schools for this award. The funds were made possible through the passage of Ohio House Bill 110 which provides $50 million for school districts to replace older school buses.

Any bus purchased with the funds must replace a bus that’s currently in use for regular routes. Each school year New Richmond strives to replace one to two older, high-mile buses. With funds being tight, the district has also shopped the used market for replacement buses.

Upon receiving news of the award in January, Transportation/Maintenance Director Luke Cox immediately placed the order for the four new buses. Two of the buses were delivered Feb. 24th. They will begin daily routes as soon as they receive their required state inspection and their state registration numbers – which could take two weeks.

Treasurer/CFO Matthew Prichard expressed his gratitude for the award.

“We’re always thankful to receive funding to help offset the cost of buses to transport our students safely and reliably,” he said.
