A 61-year-old Goshen Township man shot and killed himself on Sept. 13 as officers attempted to serve a warrant against him.

Richard Caudill was at his home in the 1500 block of East Meadowbrook Drive when one Goshen Township police officer and two Clermont County Sheriff’s officers arrived at about 10:45 a.m.

When they arrived, the officers saw Caudill’s wife leave the house and simultaneously heard one gunshot from inside the house.

The officers called the sheriff’s office’s Special Response team, who safely entered the house and found that Caudill had shot and killed himself, according to an email from Sheriff A.J. “Tim” Rodenberg.

The Clermont County Coroner’s Office is investigating the incident.

The officers were attempting to serve Caudill with a felony arrest warrant for his failure to appear in court, said Goshen Township Police Chief Bob Rose.

Caudill was charged with possession of drugs and had a felony bench warrant for his failure to appear for a Sept. 6 arraignment, according to Chief Deputy Steve Leahy.

He was also charged with a violation of protection, a violation of his probation, and was being served a bench warrant for his failure to appear in municipal court on Sept. 8.

He had a third bench warrant for his failure to appear in court on Sept. 9 on charges of disrupting public service, kidnapping and driving under the influence.

The sheriff’s office, which was holding the warrant, is continuing to investigate the case.
