His athletic career at Goshen included earning five varsity letters playing football and wrestling and he also played a season of basketball.
The Southern Buckeye Conference American Division and all-city star played defensive and offensive lineman. He earned his school’s Sportsmanship Award and an award for Random Acts of Kindness. He represented Goshen in the annual Ron Woyan Cincinnati East-West High School All-Star Football Game.
He chose MSJ because “it’s a great school. They have a good academic program and a very good football program,” said Settles.
A pair of football battles stand out as highlights of his career as a Warrior.
Said Settles, “There was so much hype before our game with New Richmond my junior year. It was the toughest game I’d ever been in . . . The playoff game against Springfield Shawnee my junior year was the first I’d ever played in. I’ll never forget the atmosphere, the whole excitement of that game.”
The Warrior star is very grateful to many for his success.
“My parents (Tom and Karen Settles) stuck by my side through the good and bad. . . my grandparents (Raymond and Helen Martin) taught me how to be a gentleman and what a good work ethic can do for you. . . God gave me the opportunities to get where I am now. . . (Goshen High) coaches (Ron) Inabnitt and (Mark) Slagle helped me mature and learn how to be a leader on and off the field.”
