Robert Andrew Cmehil, affectionately known as “Mr. Bob” or “Bobby,” passed away on April 14, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born on March 28, 1939, in Strausstown, PA, Robert was a beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was defined by deep family bonds, wisdom, and curiosity. He is survived by his daughters Laura Piette, Angela Fitzmorris, Rhea Dowlen, and Tina Cmehil and their mother, Diane Stamper; siblings Paul, Raymond, Carl, and Jo Anne; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents and several siblings.

A proud U.S. Army Reserve veteran, Robert’s devotion extended both to his country and family.

Professionally, he retired in 2012 from the Ashtabula County Youth Detention Center, where he was respected for his positive influence on the youth he served. Robert’s passions included genealogy, which connected him with friends and family around the world, and at age 48, he earned a Computer Science degree, sparking a love for video games that lasted his lifetime.

He was a devoted Catholic who found solace in daily rosary prayers, and he took joy in simple pleasures like coffee and chocolate malts. Robert will be remembered for his endless curiosity and his love for family.

A memorial service to remember, honor, and celebrate the life that Robert lived will be held at 1:00 p.m. on July 12, 2025, at Graceland Memorial Gardens in Milford, OH. All who knew Robert are welcome to attend. Farewell, Robert. Your memory will forever be our treasure.
