MILFORD — Not even the heat and the threat of severe storms could deter people from attending a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a fitness court and mural that honors the history of Miami Township.
The Clermont County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Miami Township, the Milford Miami Township Chamber of Commerce and local artist Kate Albert participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community celebration for a new outdoor Fitness Court and an art mural honoring America250, the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States. The event took place June 27 at Community Park.
“It’s been a pleasure as a township trustee to see the things we can do in Miami Township,” Miami Township Trustee Mary Makley Wolff said. “Twenty years ago, the residents of this community passed a replacement level to continue the parks system that we had passed in 1995, so we have been committed to fitness and good wellness in this community for a very, very long time.
“This just continues that legacy that we built.”
The brightly blue-colored court features a mural of historic Miami Township painted by Albert, a self-taught acrylic artist from Milford. The mural showcases the Miami Township Diamond, one-room schoolhouses, Shaw Farm, the Old Perintown Grist Mill, Leming House, Epworth Heights Hotel, Ebenezer Baptist Church, mulberry trees, Miami Indian Canoeing and Camp Friedlander.
The mural is the first of eight planned installations in Clermont County, part of the America250 celebration.
