Williamsburg Township could be the site of a global pharmaceutical company’s new $1 billion production facility, a project that is anticipated to create 650 new jobs.
On June 29, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine’s office announced seven projects, including this one, that are expected to create 1,221 jobs and more than $1.1 billion in investments for the state.
This project belongs to Lonza USA, which the governor’s office reported to be “currently considering a potential future investment opportunity to construct a new biotech manufacturing facility in Williamsburg Township.”
Lonza is described as the world’s largest contract development and manufacturing operation dedicated to serving the pharma and biotech industries.
The Ohio Tax Credit Authority has already reviewed the economic development proposals brought to the board by JobsOhio and its regional partners, and if Lonza’s project meets due diligence requirements and is approved by the Lonza Board of Directors, it is said that the project will create 350 full-time equivalent jobs and generate $50 million in new annual payroll from an investment of $1 billion.
DeWine’s office reported that the TCA approved a 1.860 percent, 20-year Job Creation Tax Credit for the project.
It is reported that Lonza is looking to build on 161 acres across two county-owned parcels at the South Afton Industrial Park.
Local news outlets report that the state is currently competing against Texas, North Carolina and Virginia to win the development.
