At West Clermont Schools, we believe learning should extend beyond the classroom walls. We want students to explore their interests, develop real-world skills and discover pathways that excite them. That’s exactly what’s happening with the Warrior Way Podcast, a student-led project that focuses on leadership by exploring “The 7 Habits of Very Effective People” by Stephen Covey.

When Willowville Elementary Principal Kevin Jones asked me to help launch this podcast, I saw an opportunity to create something special — an experience where students could build confidence, develop professional skills and connect with leaders in our community. I had never produced a podcast before, but that didn’t matter. We learned together, and the students quickly took ownership of the project.

This isn’t just about podcasting. It’s about preparing students for whatever comes next. Fifth graders are learning to conduct interviews, manage schedules and send professional emails — real-world skills that will serve them well in any career. It’s also about connecting our schools and students with our community thanks to partnerships, such as the one we have with the Cincinnati Podcast Studio, where our podcasters recently got the chance to interview former Bengals quarterback Jon Kitna. They learned how leadership plays out in different fields and that even famous athletes face challenges.

The impact goes beyond elementary school. Two of my high school communication interns are mentoring these young podcasters, helping them refine their skills and build confidence. Watching them step into leadership roles has been just as rewarding.

West Clermont is committed to providing students with meaningful, hands-on experiences like this one. Whether it’s through podcasting, career internships or leadership opportunities, we want every student to find their voice, explore their interests and develop the skills they need for the future. The Warrior Way Podcast is just one example of how we’re building pathways for students — inside and outside the classroom — that will help them succeed long after they leave our schools.

And this is only the beginning.
