The State of Ohio is a national leader for its use of evidence-based solutions to solve problems and improve the lives of citizens, according to an annual analysis of how state governments use evidence and data to drive decision-making. Ohio was named the nation’s “Leading Example” in Data Leadership in the Results for America 2024 Invest in What Works State Standard of Excellence that annually benchmarks how state governments invest in what works.
“Throughout my administration, we have prioritized embracing better technology to make Ohio the heart of innovation,” said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. “We have modernized state data systems and technology to evaluate our programs and practices and ensure we are investing taxpayer dollars in solutions that work. As a result, Ohio’s economy is growing, our workforce is stronger, and businesses are expanding in the Buckeye State.”
The evaluation specifically highlighted the DeWine-Husted Administration’s InnovateOhio Platform (IOP) data analytics program authorized by Executive Order 2019-15D and the work of the State Data Office within the Ohio Department of Administrative Services (DAS). The State Data Office leads the agency’s work to build and implement a strategy for all data management and analytics activities to drive results in the state. The office also operates the IOP Data Analytics program and the DataOhio Portal, data governance and policy, as well as data training for state employees.
“Under the leadership of Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted, Ohio is using technology to fuel innovation and drive efficiency,” said DAS Director Kathleen C. Madden. “DAS is pleased to work with state agencies, boards, and commissions to harness the power of data to guide some of our greatest efforts to make Ohio a better place to live and work.”
