The high school basketball season is set to get underway in under a week. Let’s look at some players to watch in the SBAAC American Division.

Carson Harris, junior, guard, Batavia

Harris is an all-around great athlete who led the conference in passing touchdowns and passing yards this fall. While his football skills might get more attention, he is a top-tier guard in the conference. Harris averaged 8.8 PPG, 2.8 RPG, and 2.7 APG as a sophomore, and will likely have an expanded role as a junior.

Landen Ison, senior, guard, Batavia

Ison is another talented backcourt member to watch for the Bulldogs. He averaged 6.5 PPG and 5.9 RPG as a junior, and will likely be more of a vocal point of the Bulldogs’ offense this season. With the graduation of first-team all-conference selections Jess Roller and Connor McElfresh, Ison and Harris will need to help carry the load.

Grant Hess, senior, guard, New Richmond

The Lions will have nine seniors on their roster this season, headlined by two-time all-conference selection Grant Hess. He averaged 11.2 PPG and 4.7 RPG as a junior and will serve as a captain for the Lions this winter.

He and his teammates will look to improve upon a 5-18 finish a season ago, and they have the experience to do so.

Braylon Settelmayer, sophomore, guard, Goshen

Settelmayer was one of just two freshmen named all-conference last season after averaging 8.8 PPG, 2.7 RPG, and 3.6 APG. With the graduation of conference player of the year Caden Zeinner, I’d expect the Warriors to rely on him heavily.

Carter Settelmayer, junior, guard, Goshen

Braylon’s brother Carter will be another key piece for the Warriors this winter. He was also named second-team all-conference last season after averaging 5.7 PPG, 3.3 RPG, and 1.7 APG.

It will be interesting to see how the Warriors are able to turn the page after graduating a talented senior class, and the Settelmayer brothers will both be relied upon heavily to help carry the load.
