Goshen’s Marr/Cook Elementary School hosted its annual Touch A Truck event on Oct. 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. behind the school. This event gave elementary students the opportunity to explore various careers by interacting with different vehicles and learning about the work associated with each.
Engagement and Learning
This year’s event was held during the school day, allowing Goshen High School students to serve as event ambassadors. They helped the younger students understand the functions and roles of various service and construction vehicles, encouraging early career exploration through hands-on learning.
Elementary students were given “Career Passports” to collect stickers at each vehicle station. High school students distributed stickers and provided information about the vehicles, enhancing the overall learning experience. The younger students also enjoyed coloring sheets related to each vehicle, making the event more interactive and fun.
Benefits for Both Groups
The event allowed high school students to develop leadership and communication skills while elementary students gained valuable exposure to potential careers. This collaboration helped strengthen connections across different age groups within the district.
Future Opportunities
The Touch A Truck event is part of a broader effort to encourage mentorship and career exploration among students. Later this year, high school students will teach Junior Achievement lessons to elementary students, further building their skills in presentation, organization, and leadership.
A special thank you to all the participants who generously provided their vehicles.
