What does a plein-air painter do during a pandemic – when her studio on Main Street in Milford is closed to visitors, and all the stores in the city are shuttered? In 2020, Nancy Achberger devised a brilliant plan – paint the town. No vehicles blocked views of historic buildings and storefronts on Main Street. No curious onlookers milled around to interrupt her work. She sketched, she photographed, and she painted.
First, Nancy painted historic entry doors on Main Street. Soon, her work expanded to capture their charming buildings. She ventured beyond Main Street to paint historic homes and Milford’s landmarks, including expansive vistas of familiar scenes. Now, Nancy is ready to share her Milford journey.
Nancy invites the public to view her beautiful and historic paintings at Painted River Art Studio, 204 Main Street, Milford, Ohio 45150, from Friday, November 1, to Saturday, November 16.
A portion of the painting sales from the November show at Painted River Art Studio will be donated to the Greater Milford Area Historical Society (GMAHS), dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich history of Milford and Miami Township.
Please help us celebrate Milford at the opening reception on Friday, November 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. If you can’t attend the opening, special viewing hours are Sunday, November 3 and 10, from 12 to 3 p.m., and Friday, November 8 and 15, until 7 p.m.
Starting Tuesday, November 5, Painted River Art Studio will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday.
Nancy’s oil paintings are in a loose impressionistic style. Most of her landscapes are completed in plein air. Nancy believes that painting and studying how light and color change outside helps to develop better studio paintings. Her favorite subjects include landscapes and landmarks in and around Cincinnati and the Miami Valley, which fits perfectly with her love of history and architecture. She enjoys teaching and learning from other artists and has organized many plein air events.
Nancy has received many awards for her figurative and landscape work. Her work is in the permanent collections of the University of Cincinnati’s Clermont College, the Zanesville Art Center, the Kenton County Public Library, and private collections. She is the current President of the Brush & Palette Painters of Cincinnati and a signature member of the Cincinnati Art Club and the Woman’s Art Club of Cincinnati.
