Police officers in the village of Bethel will earn a higher wage now that the village council has approved a pay increase for the department.
The Bethel village council voted to increase the police department’s wage scale during a special meeting on Sept. 16.
The council voted unanimously for the wage increase among the five members who were present at the meeting; one member was not present at the meeting.
Bethel Chief of Police Chad Essert brought the proposed wage scale to the council in May for discussion.
Essert developed the proposal after months of researching both the region and collecting the state averages for village police departments.
