Batavia High School students received national recognition in competitive business events and for their commitment to community service. Ten business management students who are members of Professionals of America (BPA) attended the 2024 National Conference and Competition in Chicago, Illinois, from May 9 – 14. The students received several honors, completed conference internships, and networked with peers the nation, Canada, and China.
During the Honor Awards session, the chapter was recognized with the Quality Chapter Distinction as one of BPA’s most involved and active chapters. They also accepted the Special Olympics Award, Community Service Award, Marketing & Communications Award, and the Chapter of Excellence.
Lucas Filla and Avery Hauck participated in the national showcase with their Ethical Leadership & Decision-Making presentation. They went on to place 4th. They also earned 4th place in the Small Business Management event. The top 10 finishers included Aerianna King in Legal Procedures and Jenna Mullis in Administrative Research Individual.
U.S. Presidential Volunteer Service Medals were awarded to Aidan Duh, Lucas Filla, Ryley Hare, Avery Hauck, Cienna Koeppe, Aerianna King, Jenna Mullis, Nidhi Patel, Hailey Slaughter, and Logan Slaughter for documenting over 100 hours of community service during the school year. Less than 1% of BPA members earned this distinction.
Aidan Duh, Lucas Filla, Ryley Hare, Avery Hauck, Nidhi Patel, and Hailey Slaughter also earned the national Ambassador Torch Award.
Business Management teacher and BPA advisor Angie Kovacs accompanied the students. They were joined by business advisory council member Jenifer Moles of Spindles Plus, Inc. in Batavia.
BPA is a national organization for high school students that includes activities and programs that complement classroom instruction by giving practical experience and the opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom. Business Management is a satellite program offered through Great Oaks Career Campuses.
