The City of Loveland’s Tree and Environment Committee invites you to a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 27 at 10 a.m. to officially open the Dyson Trail.
The ceremony will be held at the trailhead at Phillips Park, 11667 Rich Road. The trailhead is near the front parking lot and baseball field.
As part of the ribbon cutting, Mayor Kathy Bailey will issue a proclamation to celebrate the city’s recognition as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for effective urban forest management.
The Dyson Trail is a new one-mile loop along the Fallis Road side of Phillips Park. The trail is open to hikers, runners, walkers, and nature lovers. The trail is not handicap accessible.
The trail is named in honor of Richard Dyson, husband of artist Deirdre Dyson, known locally for painting scenes of Loveland. The Dysons have lived in Loveland for more than 45 years after moving from England. They operate the Art House II studio/gallery along West Loveland Avenue.
The trail has undergone preparation thanks to local resident Jim Daumeyer, Loveland Public Works, and area volunteers. Daumeyer built the trail with volunteers from Loveland High School National Honor Society; area Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts; FC Storm Soccer Club; and Love Our Land. Extensive removal of invasive plants, such as bush honeysuckle, has been completed. Additionally, two bridges were constructed by local Eagle Scouts.
“We are very excited to open this trail to the public. We would like to thank all our partners for helping complete this project,” said John Robinson, Chairman of the Tree and Environment Committee.
