Goshen senior Peyton Shafer has had a season to remember. She was named SBAAC American Division player of the year and helped her team register their first two D1 state tournament wins in school history.

A: Enjoy it and take in every moment because it will be over before you know it.
Q: Best memory playing basketball?
A: My best memory playing basketball was the night I scored my 1000th point and my team winning league back to back.
Q: What have you done to make yourself a better player throughout your high school career?
A: I have put in extra time in the gym, and watched a lot of film to learn more about the game and to see the areas I need to improve in.
Q: What does the honor of being named SBAAC American Division player of the year mean to you?
A: It’s an honor to have the coaches vote for me. I couldn’t be more thankful and I couldn’t have done it without my teammates pushing me every day in practice and never taking it easy on me.
Q: What has the success that your team has been able to have this season meant to you? What in your mind is the biggest reason for that success?
A: The success my team has been able to have this season means a ton to me. We have had our ups and downs but we have come together to get through those times and that’s the best part about this team. In my mind, the reason for our success is because we work together and play together and that’s what has gotten us where we are.
Q: Who would you like to thank for helping you get to where you are today?
A: I would like to thank all my family, my coaches, my teammates and my friends who have supported me throughout this journey. I would like to especially thank my mom, dad, stepmom, and grandparents for all the support, for driving me to and from practices and AAU tournaments. My brother for always being my biggest supporter.
Q: What will you miss most about being a Goshen student-athlete?
A: What I will miss most is the bonds I created with my teammates. We spent so much time together on and off the court they all became my family and I’m going to miss them.
