The ECC wrestling championships took place on Feb. 17, and the Milford Eagles showed out in a big way. The team came in 5th place overall with a score of 97.5, and had five student-athletes finish on the podium. West Clermont finished 6th overall with a score of 84.0.

Senior Adam Clayton had a day that he will never forget. He came in first place in the 150-pound weight class, recorded his 100th win by defeating Kieran Karuna from Walnut Hills, and was named ECC wrestler of the year. That’s one heck of a day.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the other coaches as wrestler of the year. While there are lots of other talented and deserving wrestlers in the league, I think it shows how sportsmanship and being a well-rounded student-athlete are important,” Clayton said.

Achieving 100 wins is a milestone reserved for elite wrestlers who put in countless hours of work into improving their craft, which Clayton has certainly done. But he knows he wouldn’t be here without his support system. “I would like to thank my dad for coaching me for the past 10 years, my mom for always supporting me from the stands, and all my coaches at Milford High School who all believe in me that I can achieve whatever I set my mind to,” Clayton said.

Clayton has accomplished a great deal throughout his career, but he isn’t done just yet. He hopes to finish top four in his weight class at districts in order to qualify for states. No matter what happens the rest of this season, it’s safe to say he will go down as one of the best Eagles to put on a gauntlet.
