The New Richmond Lions softball team went 23-4 last season, and Izzie Carroll was a key piece to their success. Carroll batted .408, and was one of the league’s top pitchers, posting a 2.37 ERA. She recently announced her commitment to Mount St. Joseph University, and I caught up with her to discuss her commitment, upcoming junior season, and more!
Q: What went into your decision to commit to Mount Saint Joseph University?
A: There were a lot of factors that went into my decision to commit to MSJ. I had to consider the location and how close to home it was, since I am a huge family-oriented person. I also loved that the campus was smaller and the opportunities offered for student-athletes on campus. I’m from a small town, so going to a huge campus just wasn’t an option for me. I also was focused on classroom size, and whether I would be able to be one-on-one with a professor, and MSJ offered just that. The coaching staff also made my decision so much easier because they were so supportive and were willing to give me time to make my decision, but because of how great my visit was, I didn’t need much time!
Q: What is the Mount Saint Joseph coaching staff going to do to help ease your transition to the next level when the time comes?
A: The MSJ coaching staff is so amazing and they are helping me ease my transition into college life in many ways. They offer many opportunities for younger student-athletes to meet other athletes through many fundraising opportunities that are offered during the summer. During these fundraisers, we get to interact with future teammates. We also have the opportunity to attend camps to meet future teammates.
Q: What about the campus/softball program made it feel like a good fit?
