Peyton Shafer has been a huge piece to Goshen’s strong start so far this year, coming into Monday’s action Shafer led the SBAAC in PPG with 19.1 and was second in APG with 4.6. After Shafer suffered an ankle injury a little over a minute into the 4th quarter of Goshen’s 57-45 win over Mt. Healthy, the Goshen Lady Warriors know they need to stick together.
The first half went fairly smoothly for Goshen, with noticeably good passing and shot distribution. 6/8 rotational players got on the score sheet. Sophomore guard Aubrie Huxel provided a nice spark leading Goshen scorers with 8 points. Goshen led 29-20 at the half.
Unfortunately, probably the biggest storyline from the second half was injury related. About 1:15 into the fourth quarter, Shafer went down with an apparent ankle injury, and would not return to action. Shafer’s void was noticeable to some degree, with Goshen’s overall game not looking as crisp as normal after the senior guard’s exit. But Goshen was able to do enough to grind out a 57-45 win over Mt. Healthy.
