A renewal tax levy will be on the March 2024 primary ballot for voters in the Williamsburg Local School District.

During its regular meeting on Dec. 18, the WLSD Board of Education passed a Resolution to Proceed with Submission of Renewal Tax Levy.

Treasure Greg Wells explained that the school district is asking voters to approve another five-year renewal of the school district’s current Emergency Operating Levy.

He said that the current Emergency Operating Levy was first passed in 2009, and subsequently renewed in 2013 and 2018, with the current levy set to expire after tax year 2023, collected in 2024.

“This levy generates just under $997,000 per year and is a crucial part of our annual operating budget. Without those funds the district will suffer an operating deficit starting in fiscal year 2025. By the end of fiscal year 2028, our operating capital carryover would be almost chopped in half. It would put the district in a difficult position financially and require us to take measures to mitigate the deficit,” Wells said in an email to The Sun.

Wells added that if the renewal is passed, property owners will continue to pay the same amount as the current Emergency Operating Levy, with no increase.

The school district submitted the renewal levy to the Clermont County Board of Elections for inclusion on the March 19, 2024, primary ballot.
