State troopers are investigating
A two-vehicle crash in Brown County over the weekend has left a Bethel teen dead and a New Richmond man in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The fatal crash happened on Nov. 25, at about 10:13 p.m. on state Route 774, just east of Starling Road in Clark Township, Brown County, according to information from the Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Erika Cox, age 19, of Bethel was driving a 2011 Ford Fiesta traveling west on state Route 774. Philip Cranfill, age 21, of New Richmond was driving a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta traveling east on state Route 774 when Cranfill’s vehicle crossed the center median and hit the Ford Fiesta head-on.
Both cars were occupied only by the drivers, and both drivers were flown by Air Care to University of Cincinnati Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
On Nov. 27, Cox succumbed the injuries she sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead.
Cranfill’s condition has not been updated.
First responder agencies that helped at the crash scene are the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Hamersville Police Department, Hamersville Squad and Fire Department, and Bethel Squad and Fire Department.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Georgetown Post.
