Rev. Bruce Billings Scott, 82, died at his home in New Smyrna Beach, Florida on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, of Kidney Failure. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jane Straeffer. They have three daughters, Sarah Scott, New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Eva Scott, Athens, Georgia, and Liz Anderson (Joel) of Port Orange, Florida; four grandchildren, Luke Nelson, Eli Nelson, Nate Nelson, and Emma Aagaard; brother-in-law, Turner Straeffer, and cousin, Marian Hambrick (Charlie).

Bruce was born in 1941 and raised in Coffeyville, Kansas. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.

Bruce received a football scholarship to the University of Hawaii. After completing college at Park University in Parkville, Missouri he served in the United States Peace Corps for 2 years in Colombia, South America. Bruce received a Master of Divinity from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He was an ordained Presbyterian minister and faithfully served for over 40 years. He served churches in Batavia (OH), Naples (FL), St. Petersburg (FL), and Sanford (FL). One of the many highlights was ministering to the victims of the Sanford tornado in 1998. During retirement he was the chaplain at the Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, Florida.

Bruce and his wife enjoyed serving God, being with their family and traveling. He visited 31 countries with his wife and relished each adventure. He led many people to Christ and always enjoyed serving others and God.

A service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of New Smyrna Beach, at 509 Magnolia Street, on Sunday, October 29th at 2 p.m. with Reverend George Head officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Halifax Health Hospice at 3800 Woodbrier Trail, Port Orange, Florida 32129.
