Losing a loved one to a violent homicide is something you will never get over. In my lifetime, I have lost a cousin and several friends to murder. The experience is one you’ll never forget. Today’s story takes us back to 2021, when I interviewed Cindy Arthurs for episode 72 of the podcast.
Here is a link to the episode if you haven’t heard it yet. (https://www.catchmykiller.com/episode-72-kimberly-louiselle). Someone murdered Cindy’s older sister Kimberly Louiselle. At the time of Kimberly’s abduction and murder, the sisters lived in Livonia, Michigan.
Sgt. Larry Rothman of the Michigan State Police Cold Case Unit emailed me last month. In his message, he informed me that Kimberly’s killer had been identified. A young woman named Christina Castiglione of Redford Township was also murdered by the same killer. On March 29th, 1983, the 19-year-old was found murdered in Deerfield Township, Michigan. She had been brutally raped and strangled by her killer.
Kimberly Louiselle, 16, was last seen alive on March 20, 1982. She had just met her boyfriend who had broken up with her. She was left at her boyfriend’s house while he went to work. In need of a ride home, Kimberly walked to the nearest payphone. After she failed to return home, her parents contacted law enforcement.
On April 14, 1982, Kimberly Louiselle’s body was found in a field behind a park and ride near Grand River Avenue and Kensington Road. She lived within ten miles of the field. An unknown killer had beaten, raped, and strangled the teenager to death. A third woman, Anna Marie Doroghazi, had also died under similar circumstances as Kimberly and Christina. On September 29, 1981, Anna Marie, 20, was found murdered. It was unclear at the time if Christina, Kimberly, and Anna Marie had been murdered by a serial killer. Keep in mind that during the 80s, there was no DNA or advanced technology. Cindy had told me that she was frustrated with the investigation of her sister’s homicide. For over 40 years, she had wanted to know who had killed her beloved older sister.
I have interviewed police officers, friends, and relatives who have broken hearts that will never heal. They have experienced a loss that will haunt them forever. The pain of their losses never goes away; they just adapt to it.
I was ecstatic to learn from Sgt. Rothman that Michigan State Police had identified the killer of Christina Castiglione and Kimberly Louiselle. As a result of DNA testing, Charles David Shaw was identified as the killer of both Kimberly and Christina. Unfortunately, there would be no justice for either woman’s families.
On November 27, 1983, Shaw’s body was found in Detroit. An autopsy determined that he died from accidental sexual asphyxiation. In a sense, it is a fitting end for an evil man who did nothing but cause pain to his victims’ families. To find out more about Shaw, I looked online.
He also lived in Livonia, not far from the location where Christina Castiglione was last seen. His family described him as a sex addict with mental health issues. Additionally, he had a history of legal troubles and once attempted to abduct a woman from a McDonald’s parking lot. My first thought after reading about Shaw was that he may have had other victims. He was probably a serial killer. But who were his other victims? Also, did he kill Anna Marie Doroghazi? For more information about Anna’s case, I visited the Village of Milford website. The website still lists her name, and her murder remains unsolved. Anyone with information about Anna’s homicide is encouraged to contact the Milford Police Detective Bureau at (248) 684-1815.
