Several high school fall sports league championships have been determined, and the rest will be won over the next two weeks.
Here’s a wrapup of where races stand in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference and Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference, as of Oct. 1:
Cross country
ECC: The league championships are Saturday, Oct. 14, at Lebanon High School. Loveland has won the last two boys and girls titles.
According to the league website, eccsports.com, Loveland sophomore Ronan Wolfer has the second-fastest time among ECC boys runners this season, 15 minutes, 44.8 seconds at the Adidas XC Challenge. Sophomore Paul Wolfer has Milford’s fastest time, 16:01.8 at the Lebanon Running Warrior Invitational, and senior Brennen Carter has West Clermont’s fastest time, 18:52.41, at the Bethel Invitational.
Two Loveland sophomores, Caroline Murnan and Delaney Cilley, have the top girls times. Murnan ran an 18:28.60 at the Adidas XC Challenge and Cilley an 18:38.40 at the same event. Milford freshman Elle Campbell posted a 19:03.30 at the Troy Twilight event, and West Clermont sophomore Sophie Crider a 21:21.02 at the Mason invitational.
SBAAC: The league meet is Saturday, Oct. 14, at Wilmington College. Western Brown (American Division boys), Clermont Northeastern (National Division boys), New Richmond (American Division girls) and Bethel-Tate (National Division girls) are defending champions.
Goshen sophomore Peyton Dooloukas won the girls individual title last season and has run a season’s best 18:51 at Williamsburg earlier this season.
Boys golf
ECC: Loveland was undefeated in ECC regular season matches (7-0) and won both the league preseason and postseason tournament. Senior Anthony Moran placed second overall at the postseason tournament, shooting a 33-39 – 72 at the Mason Golf Center. Junior Jonathan Campbell (34-40 – 74) was Milford’s top placer in the postseason tournament, and sophomore Cameron Lahman (39-38 – 77) led West Clermont. The team title is Loveland’s first since 2020 and sixth overall since the ECC formed in 2012.
SBAAC: Clinton Massie (American Division) and Williamsburg (National Division) are the 2023 champions. New Richmond was third, Batavia fourth and Goshen sixth in the American; Bethel-Tate second, Clermont Northeastern third and Felicity-Franklin fifth in the National. Bethel-Tate senior Nick Mullen won the National Division individual championship, shooting a 74 at Eagles Nest Golf Course.
Girls golf
ECC: Lebanon won the regular season (8-0) and postseason tournament championships. Milford placed seventh, Loveland eighth and West Clermont ninth.
SBAAC: Clinton Massie won the league tournament (only five SBAAC schools have girls golf programs). Goshen was second and New Richmond fourth. Goshen junior Jo Schulz was second, with a 98 at Eagles Nest.
Boys soccer
ECC: Walnut Hills (6-1-0 ECC) entered the week a half-game up on Turpin (5-1-1) with two league games remaining. Loveland (1-2-3) was seventh; Milford (2-5-0) eighth, and West Clermont (1-6-0) ninth.
Individually, Milford junior Nick Henke was second in the conference in scoring with 23 points (nine goals, five assists), and West Clermont’s Andres Ramirez led the league in saves (118).
SBAAC: Clinton Massie (American) and Georgetown (National) were each in first place at the end of September. Batavia was third, New Richmond fourth and Goshen fifth in the American; Clermont Northeastern second, Bethel-Tate third, Williamsburg fourth and Felicity-Franklin fifth in the National. Bethel-Tate junior Griffin Davis led the league in assists with nine; Clermont Northeastern junior Connor Yeager led the league in shutouts with seven.
Girls soccer
ECC: Milford was undefeated as of Oct. 1, with a 10-0-3 overall record and 6-0-1 league mark; Anderson was in second place at 4-0-2; West Clermont in third (5-2-0) and Loveland in sixth (2-1-3). Milford senior Ana Manning was the league’s leading scorer with 35 points and leading goal scorer (16). Senior goalkeeper Kristen Burns had an ECC-best 82 saves and six shutouts.
SBAAC: Batavia (American) and Clermont Northeastern (National) were both undefeated entering the week. Goshen was third and New Richmond fourth in the American, and Bethel-Tate second, Williamsburg third and Felicity-Franklin fifth in the National.
Bethel-Tate senior Avery Ausman led the league in scoring (34 points) and goals (12). Clermont Northeastern sophomore Emma Yeager had nine shutouts.
Girls tennis
ECC: Turpin dominated, going 8-0 in the regular season and winning four of five courts in the league tournament. Loveland was second in the tournament, Milford fourth and west Clermont ninth.
SBAAC: In the American Division, Clinton Massie won both the regular season and tournament championships. New Richmond was third overall, Batavia fifth and Goshen sixth.
In the National Division, Clermont Northeastern was fourth overall, Felicity-Franklin fifth and Bethel-Tate sixth. Bethel-Tate seniors Dylan Crabtree and Emma Wetzel were co-Players of the Year, along with Georgetown’s Lillian Gray.
Volleyball
ECC: Kings (14-0) had a two-match lead on Turpin (12-2) entering the final two weeks. Loveland (8-6) was fifth; Milford (6-8) sixth, and West Clermont (2-12) ninth.
Individual statistical leaders included Milford senior Kelsey McKinney, blocks (46); Milford sophomore Rachel Morgan, service aces (47) and Loveland senior Summer Shinkle, pass points (765).
SBAAC: New Richmond and Western Brown (American) and Williamsburg (national) took division leads into October. In the American, Batavia was fourth and Goshen fifth. In the National, Clermont Northeastern was second, Bethel-Tate fifth and Felicity-Franklin seventh. Clermont Northeastern and Williamsburg were scheduled to play Thursday at Williamsburg.
Individually, New Richmond junior Ella Heiden led the conference in kills (203); Williamsburg senior Madison Speeg in digs (256), and Williamsburg junior Ella Sunderman in service aces (80)
