The Williamsburg Garden Club is celebrating fall in the village.

This year, the garden club once again sponsored Scarecrows in Williamsburg, and the Williamsburg Farmers Market hosted the event.

Liz Betemps is the President of the Williamsburg Garden Club. She shared that Gayle Burroughs and Kristin Sampsel helped place corn shocks on every corner for the scarecrows.

Jennifer Ebbing from Haywire Homestead and Jennifer Bivins with Sherwood Garlic served as the judges for the event.

“Judging was not easy when there were so many creative and outstanding entries this year,” Betemps said.

The winners were recently announced as follows:

Adult Prize Winners:

First Place – Lucy Snell created a sheriff riding a horse. The scarecrow is placed near the police station sign.

Second Place – Susan Givler created a Taylor Swift with all her glitter and shine. The scarecrow is placed near the bridge.

Third Place – Toni Teague created a cute scarecrow tucked into her sleeping bag with her teddy bear.

Youth Prize Winners:

First Place – Williamsburg Girl Scout Troop 4327 created an adorable cowgirl in great boots and hat.

Second Place – John Light and the Williamsburg United Methodist Church Senior High Youth Group created a scarecrow in a red shirt with Ohio and local patches.

Third Place – Elaina Naegel created a gourd smiling face with hand painted daisy shoes.

Upcoming Williamsburg Garden Club meeting

The Williamsburg Garden Club will meet on Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 2nd and Gay Streets. The hostess for the evening is Sandy Briegel. Betemps explained that members are to respond to Roll Call by sharing their “Favorite Fall Tradition.” Betemps added that the specimen/artistic arrangement is to be Mums. The program “Native Plants, Love Our Land” will be presented by Doug Gilbert, who is an environmental consultant and is very knowledgeable about native plants and improving our own backyards.

Betemps also shared that the garden club’s new officers for the coming year will be installed and reports on the Mum Sale and Scarecrows on Main Street will be given.

“The Club would like to thank everyone who supported the Annual Mum sale. Proceeds will be used for the beautification of the Williamsburg Community and local scholarships,” Betemps said.

Looking ahead, the garden club is planning a flower show during the Williamsburg Harmony Hill Historic Home Tour on Oct. 7. The flower show will be at the Presbyterian Church beginning at 10:00 a.m., and the event is open to the public.

The flowers will later be on display in some of the homes and at the church for viewing. The Historic Home Tour is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., adults only, rain or shine. Ticket information may be obtained for the Home Tour by calling -513-305-0607 or 513-724-3657.
