There are several updates from Tate Township.
The Tate Township Board of Trustees met on Sept. 12 for its monthly meeting. Trustees Gary Reed, Bob Redden, and John Wilson were present for the meeting.
The township provided a summary of the meeting. Below are some of the business items that were covered:
- The meeting minutes from Aug. 8 were approved.
- Reed reminded the residents in attendance about the Rules for Public Participation that were approved on June 13.
- According to the August cemetery report, there were 10 burials, 10 foundations ordered, and 11 graves sold; six were sold in the township and five were sold out of the township. Crews poured 14 footers with six more to be poured soon. Crew finished grading section 23, which has “turned out to look really good with plenty of grade now that the work has been completed.” The new Gator arrived and crews are using the old Gator as the cemetery concrete work vehicle.
- The road report explained that 100 tons of blacktop grindings were delivered and donated from Brown County Construction. Also, some 120 tons of clean limestone were donated to be used for the township road birming projects. The maintenance crew has been DuraPatching township roads. They had to take down three trees and the Bethel-Tate Fire Department used the ladder truck to assist with the project.
- Deputy Erik Pike’s report showed that in August, he responded to 79 calls, took 19 reports, made four criminal arrests, conducted 42 investigations, closed 22 reports, and assisted other departments 21 times. Pike participated in August in Burke Park for the National Night Out for youth.
- The Bethel-Tate Fire Department’s August 2023 report showed that a total of 163 calls were received; 43 were fire calls, with five structure fires. “The crews did an excellent job.” The total fire loss was $7,100 and the total saved was $258,000. No new hydrants were installed last month by Tate Monroe Water. The Duke Bethel/Batavia gas pipeline is on schedule to be finished in October. Signs for the Bethel-Tate Fire Department levy will be out in October. The trustees acted on a resignation, two hires, and a fire cadet. Now there are 10 cadets, which is the desired staffing level. The Chief complimented the department with “very good fire knockdowns on all occasions minimizing the fire loss on all three structures.”
- The zoning report showed that for both July and August, there were nine permits that included one home occupancy, one pole barn/garage, two room additions, one inground pool, two garages, two single-family dwellings, and one variance. It was suggested that the complaints that the department receives should be reported on a form for clarity, paper trail, and organization. A draft of the form will be finalized and posted to the website; this process is intended to help the residents.
- Per a request from the trustees, a representative from Choice One attended the meeting to answer questions about the draft of the Alternate Energy: Solar resolution. The trustees brought up a few minor changes they would like to see done; the changes would be made and the township’s legal counsel will review.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:46 p.m.
The next meeting will be Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m.
