Clermont County is taking an early step toward broadband expansion.
During its meeting on Feb. 28, the Clermont County Board of Commissioners approved the solicitation of Request for Statement of Qualifications for the provision of consultation services for broadband expansion.
Assistant County Administrator Greg Bickford presented the request.
He explained that he and staff have been researching broadband expansion and the way the industry has gone.
“I think the biggest problem that providers have is getting that middle mile. They can do the last mile; that’s usually attainable financially, but that middle mile is where the issue is, and this hopefully will alleviate that problem,” Bickford said.
He also made it clear that this was the first step in the process, and that no providers have been selected.
“This is just to study what we have, where we’re deficient, and figure out a plan to moving forward,” Bickford said.
The commissioners unanimously approved the request. RSQs may be received until 2 p.m. on March 29.
